Does Your Business Really Need A Copywriter?

Yes.

‘But Charlotte, you would say that – you’re a copywriter!’

And yes, that’s true. I am a little bit biased. But the truth is your business really does need a copywriter. Because the right person writing the right words in the right way can completely revolutionise your business. You just need to find the right copywriter. But I understand the hesitation, especially in such tough economic times. So to help you see the benefit before you spend the money, here are 5 ways hiring a copywriter will be good for your business.

Take Writing Off The To-Do List

First, ask yourself a question. Do you have the time to write? Be honest here. Between your family responsibilities, invoicing, chasing clients, sending emails, stock taking, providing services, seeing friends, showering, eating and managing social media, do you have any extra time to give? For most people, the answer is a resounding no. Followed by asking if I’ve finished building my time machine yet.

Most business owners hire a copywriter because they simply don’t have the time to write for themselves. There is so much to do already running a business that writing blogs, newsletters or even social media captions isn’t even on your radar. But that stuff needs to happen if you want to grow your business. Hiring a copywriter means you’re paying someone else to create your content, allowing you to tick ‘write blog post’ off your to-do list and focus on other areas of your business.

Actually Connect With your Audience

Getting something written is one thing, but making sure it actually does its job is something else entirely. How confident are you that your content will connect with your target audience? Is it going to intrigue them and attract them to your business, or will it make them cringe and put them off ever coming near you?

For your content to be successful you need to know your audience inside and out, and then tailor your content to what they like to consume. That’s easy to say, but much harder in practice! If you know your audience well already, then great! But if you don’t, a copywriter is definitely the right move. We spend our time researching your audience and writing engaging content for you, so all you have to do is sit back and enjoy all the rewards that come with it. Like, you know, awareness, followers and *gasp* sales!

Cut The Waffle

And not the tasty kind. Listen, everyone tends to waffle sometimes – even me when I’m left to my own devices! But often when clients send me some they’ve written, there is a little nugget of pure gold hidden in there, buried under a pile of unnecessary waffle. With copy it pays to be succinct, and a copywriter can help you do that. We cut through all the unnecessary bits and bring focus to the core point. Your copy will be snappy, clear and memorable, so customers get the right message quickly.

Don’t feel bad if you’re a waffler by the way. Your business is your baby, of course you want to talk about it! But your audience doesn’t have time to read every little thing about your business, which is why you need a copywriter to trim the fluff and get to the point.

Drive Sales

Whatever your business does, your ultimate goal is to sell. If it wasn’t, then it wouldn’t be a business. That means your content needs to be geared towards driving sales, attracting new prospects and pushing them down that sales funnel so that they buy from you. To do that you need clear, targeted and accurate communications. You need to use urgency to inspire action, create problems that only you can solve, and weave stories that gently nudge customers towards your business. Sometimes it’s subtle, other times it’s more overt. But with a copywriter, it’s always there. We know what methods to use to get the best results, and use our knowledge to keep a steady stream of prospects drawn to your business by your content. Insert your own moth and flame analogy here, and you’ll get the idea.

Get Your Voice Right

One of the big things I notice as a copywriter is just now many business owners don’t know what their brand voice is. Instead, they default to their own voice, which in some cases is absolutely fine, and in others, it can feel a bit odd. No biggie though. The real problems come in when you start writing because unless you do it all the time, your content probably sounds like a school essay. Stiff, a bit too formal, and not really showcasing any of your real personality. In other words, something no one really wants to read!

By hiring a copywriter you’re getting someone who writes day in and day out. Who understands brand voice, and can use their skills to bring yours out of the woodwork. Copywriters are great at injecting personality into their work, and using one will help your content stand out from the crowd of school essays clamouring for attention.

So, does your business need a copywriter? Yeah. Should you hire me? Maybe. I can’t say for sure, because I don’t know you yet! What I do know is that you should choose a copywriter who is right for you, who gels with your brand values and who you feel comfortable with. There’s a copywriter out there for every business, all you have to do is find them!

If you think that might be me, great! I’d love to grab a coffee and have a chat about your business. Just ping me a message here, and we’ll get a date in the diary.
